Let’s get down to business. Instagram Hooks are the key to dramatically increasing your video watch time. Increased viewer retention = Better performing video 💫 (duh)

I’m tired of seeing educational videos on Instagram that are long, boring, and take forever to get to the point, and I’m sure you are too! 😓

Here are 3x ACTIONABLE Tips you can use for your next reel.

🍿 Make your hooks quick, exciting, and easy to watch!

The easiest way to lose an audience is to be boring.

Trim the unnecessary bits like the “um’s”, pauses and repetitive words. Only serve up the best bits, and leave your audience craving more.

🌟 Digital Temptations: Keep ’em hooked!

Re-engage the audience every 2-4 Seconds.

You know when you’re watching an episode of a TV show and at the end they leave you on a cliffhanger that makes you instantly want to see what happens next? Well, just like in your favourite TV show, leave your audience on the edge of their seat, eagerly anticipating what comes next. The suspense is your secret weapon! I have found after working with a ton of different clients in various industries that a good rule of thumb is re-engage the viewer every 2-4 seconds.

But how?

Easy! Add in some b-roll, do an animation, animate the captions, zoom in. There are a ton of things you can do. Test what works for your videos and after seeing the analytics of your videos you can make educated decisions on what’s working and what’s not.

This is crucial if you want to constantly improve and test your Instagram Hooks.

Analysing this particular reel as seen in the image, it’s evident that it gained significant traction, with numerous accounts sharing it and saving it. This indicates the viewers found value in the content and were keen on sharing it with their friends.

However, the average watch time of 5 seconds highlights an opportunity for improvement. Out of the 12,401 viewers, they on average only watched 40% of the reel before moving on.

To address this, in the future, we’ll aim to re-engage the viewer at that 4-second mark. This could be with another hook or captivating element to maintain their watch time.

The key takeaway here is the importance of constant improvement.
