Burke & Wills Projects are a commercial fitout company based in Brisbane (now expanded Aus wide). They came to us as a referral from a gym they did a fit-out for, and we were doing the video’s for the gym, so they came to us and wanted a video of the before/after of their fitout of that specific gym, Breathe Health Clubs. From there we’ve now done 30+ videos of their projects across Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. They’ve been valued clients of ours for over 3 years now.

They’re a commercial fitout company operating nationally, working on projects from smaller retail spaces like EB Games, Lorna Jane stores and G-Free Donuts to 3,000m²+ BCF superstores. They recognised early that documenting their work professionally was a strategic advantage, and they moved on that instinct before most of their competitors did.

When Todd and Adam (the director’s), first reached out to us 3+ years ago, they had zero video content and very minimal photo content. This was doing zero justice for their business for the scale of projects they were doing. Fortunately, they saw the importance that showcasing their work can do for them in the overall marketplace, long before video content became popular in the construction industry.

When it comes to filming with Burke and Wills they have the same obvious time constraints as every construction company… To capture the before/afters we needed to time the filming sessions perfectly to effectively showcase the key stages of the fit-out. Our team at Unreal Media have our white cards so site access was rarely an issue and getting sign off was straight forward.

What We Produced

BCF Townsville:

We filmed the BCF Townsville superstore for Burke & Wills to showcase everything they had worked on from not only the fit-out, but also the joinery. This was able to be done in a day of filming.

Source Bulk Foods

Showcasing this project from start to finish was a lot of fun and one of the first projects we did with Burke & Wills. Filmed over 2 separate sessions to achieve the before/after vibe.

Lorna Jane

We have filmed a few of the Lorna Jane Retail store fitouts for Burke & Wills now. We also ensure we come in before opening hours to avoid disruption to shoppers and so we can get in, get out fast.

G-Free Donuts

This particular G-Free Donut’s fitout was filmed in the same centre as the Source Bulk Foods project we filmed so we were able to film them both at the same time and make the experience smooth for the team.

Beaurepairs Rocklea

This Beaurepairs in Rocklea was filmed over 2x sessions so that we could showcase the before/after of this fitout from Burke & Wills.

The Result: Played at BCF’s national Gala, two years running

An incredible example of how their videos have been utilised outside of general social media and their website, is the BCF superstore showcases we produced for them, got played at BCF’s company wide Gala night 2 years in a row.

This is a night where all BCF’s suppliers, trades and partners saw this video. This was powerful for Burke and Wills to grow their network and be seen as BCF’s trusted fitout partner because it was being played in front of the people who commission fitout work at scale.

How do you film in a live retail environment or active construction site?

Our crew at Unreal Media, holds white cards, which are required for access to active construction and commercial sites across Queensland.

We coordinate closely with site managers and project managers on timing, access routes, and safety requirements before every shoot. For retail environments where the store is still trading, we schedule filming during off-trading hours or in sections of the site that aren’t yet open to the public.

Typically in retail the sites are fenced off and hidden from public view anyway which makes this process pretty straightforward. Once the project is complete we film before the store opens to avoid disruption to shoppers.

How long does a commercial fitout video take to produce?

Most fitout project videos are produced across two to three days worth of filming. The footage we are trying to capture before the fit-out is complete is key moments during the process.

For example, anything that is going to look ‘exciting’ on camera. We then do the final filming session once the fit-out is complete for the final reveal.

Post-production, including editing, colour grading, and sound design, usually takes one to two weeks depending on the complexity of the edit.
